My day off

My toe hurt so much when I went to bed last night. I vowed I would keep it up and iced all day today. Except today it is better, less painful and smaller. Still I plan to baby it.

I discovered last night that I don't have enough yarn to do the blanket. She only gave me three skeins and two are partial and the yarn has not been available for several years so no chance of buying more. The original knitter had not woven in her yarn ends so I can see exactly how much one skein will knit. And I don't think a 34x20 inch blanket was what she had in mind. I wrote to the daughter and suggested we put a white stripe in the middle. I hope she agrees but will totally get it if she does not.

My grocery list is growing but so is my desire to go nowhere. I have 3 eggs left and a half loaf of bread so I may wait until those get down to 0.

Tomorrow is Myrna's 92 birthday. She's been saying she's 92 for a while. When a kid is 5, he is not allowed to say he's 6 until his birthday but when you are almost 92 you can do whateverthefuckyouwant. Most people on this hall are 80 and lots are over 85. One of the most spry is 88. I found out yesterday that two of my friends who live on the other side of the complex are over 80. They are Asian and when we were in the senior center yesterday there was an Asian couple playing ping pong who looked maybe 30. I noted that they sure didn't look senior and Martha quipped "you know we Asians NEVER show our age!". Sure true for her and her husband. I would have pegged them for 60's, maybe 70's.

I have another eye scan appointment on Monday. I'm toying with the idea of canceling. If it weren't so bleapin' convenient to get to, I'd do it. I cannot believe any eye issue I have could be that serious if it takes this many scans to diagnose. I guess I'll give them one more shot and then I quit.

Maybe I'll do the grocery shopping after the scan on Monday. Maybe.

Today's assignment is to finish the puzzle. Won't be hard, we're nearly there.

Is there much mixing between people on the different sides of the complex or even between floors? I guess it depends on how much you participate in the larger events, but it's striking to me how much of your daily socialising is with people who live close. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's really nice to have a friendly neighbourhood - I just wondered if it would be seen a weird to, say, visit another Elbow Coffee.
