Feeling competent
Apr. 27th, 2024 09:18 amThe blanket lady was fine with an additional color so I took the partially done one to the local yarn shop. I'd been looking for an excuse to check them out and this was perfect. I was waited on by a woman who I am sure owns the shop and she was great. I often have a problem with yarn shop owners/workers. I have found them to be very cliqueish and condescending. She was the opposite of both. We quickly found a perfect solution. When my ship comes in, I will be a regular customer of hers. (yeah, yeah, I hear you... but, Susan, your house is already FULL of yarn!!! - point taken but does not alter the future)
With the new yarn I now had plenty to practice with. My goal is to mimic the originator's work so that even a knitter could not tell someone else worked on it. I had a hard time with the stitch - there are lots of variations. I could have unraveled some of her work for details but I really didn't want to do that. After several iterations, I hit on what I thought was it and boldly dove in.

And, I think I got it. The last row of green is mine and, of course, the cream. And I think it looks pretty darned close. She was a tighter knitter than I am so it's kind of struggle but I'll get used to it. This is not going to be a quick project but I think it's going to be pretty satisfying.
Today is, of course, elbow coffee but the Myrna birthday edition. Cake!! Her shelf, this morning, had a few cards, one with a yellow rubber duck attached and one with a balloon. I had a huge pop up flower arrangement with a card from Julio (and me and Biggie) to add to the mix. I hope she was delighted when she opened her door.
Volleyball was excellent. We had 10 people which is a good number - front lines of four with a back court. And I played exceptionally well. Some days, ya just got it.
No big plans today. Knitting. Baseball tonight. But first... cake!
