Helping a little, not a lot
May. 8th, 2024 03:28 pmJohn and Hazel live two doors down. They came to the US from Ireland 30 years ago and they are pretty cute. He's 88 and she 82. They have two sons. One is married with a daughter. Both live nearby. Most days they go down to lunch and always invite me and lots of times I go with them.
John has a computer and almost kinda knows how to use it. He uses AOL for email (there can't be more than a dozen of us left!). Hazel has a Samsung tablet that she uses to play solitaire. Neither has ever asked me for hands on help. (John once asked me how to turn off his screen saver which I told him.) But, he likes to call Michael (the on site tech) for help. Which is fine.
BUT today Hazel asked me for real help. She said her tablet would not charge because she had too much stuff on it. She brought it out and she did not have too much stuff but I did clean up as much as Samsung lets me. They load so much shit on that you cannot get rid of... Then I plugged it into a fast charger with a different cable and it was happy as a clam. Chargers procreate in this house so sending one to a new home is a blessing. I took the cable and charger to Hazel and showed her how to delete some of the games she doesn't want any more and she was very happy.
John wanted me to take AOL off of the tablet because he has it on his computer. I did not even try to tell him that made no difference but I did show him how Samsung wouldn't let him. He said he got it. That ever since a Windows update of a week or so ago, gmail keeps trying to install and he keeps trying to stop it. "Mike says there's nothing I can do."
I didn't even try.
Hazel paid me with a Snickers. I told her that if there was a problem with the fix, to come see me but no way was she getting her Snickers back.
Noelle, down the hall, was on her way out "I'm going to Target and QFC, can I get you anything?" Well, if you come across some 10 inch flour tortillas, I'd love a package. It's the only thing on my shopping list that would make me make a trip. Now I have a fresh batch. Think of all the money I saved. Noelle's good deed for the day.
The puzzle is nearly done but Bonny and Myrna were not out there so I left about 50 pieces so they could finish. That's my good dead for the day.
