Yesterday I ordered nametags for Biggie and Julio. So this morning I put on simple, light weight velcro collars - the color kind used to identify new puppies. I figured I'd get them used to the collar before I added the nametag. About 30 minutes later, Biggie was hovering around Julio and I saw that Julio had his jaw caught in the collar. And he couldn't get it out. And, of course he wouldn't come close to me.

I left it for a few minutes and tried again. And then I saw he had blood on his paws. And I escalated the capture. Fail fail fail.

It was 6 am but I went down to Myrna's to see if there was any chance in hell she was up and she was! I said your friend needs you. She didn't have her hearing aids in yet or her teeth but she did not hesitate. It took us about 20 minutes but we finally got him and got the collar off. He didn't move so I picked him up and cradled him which he had never let me do before.

He seemed more in shock than hurt. The paws had a little blood on them but not that much and his mouth looked fine. I turned him over to Myrna who was now afraid he would be afraid of her. She held him for a long time and then put him on the floor and got down and stroked him. He started cleaning his paws.

And Biggie helped.

And Myrna went home.

Early Sunday morning seems to be the time for not fun happenings here!

That's scary! I'm glad you had someone to help you! Cats are champions at getting collars caught in weird ways. I've had to rescue a couple of neighborhood cats whose collars were hung on bushes in my yard. One time one not only had his collar hung on a bush, he had one paw caught through it. I'm sure that happened as he was trying to get it off and escape the bush. Poor guy.
