Volleyball was good. All but two of the regulars were there leading to some lively play. When we have more people, we can have a back court and so you can hit the ball as hard as you want. It's a different kind of game and pretty fun.

I go from here to the pool through the parking lot and then through the hallway where the assisted living folks are. Tuesdays and Thursdays, my coming back trip often runs into folks on the way to their dining room for breakfast. (in assisted living, they have their own kitchen and they can have breakfast delivered or they can eat in the dining room) There's one tiny but pretty spry woman who's usually steering her walker to breakfast when I come home and she gives me a hearty GOOD MORNING before I'm even close so her eyesight must be pretty good, too. This morning she told me I make her feel guilty because when she sees me, I've already done my exercises. I told her I'd done double - one for her and one for me. She gave me a giant smile. I need to learn her name if we're going to keep this up.

Which reminds me of something on my brain. I've spent 75 years now with the familiar call and response being the same. When someone says Thank You, the answer is You're Welcome. Or if you are cool, No Problem. In the past year, I've noticed a distinct change. now the answer is Of Course. Which sounds so weird to me and, honestly, not too gracious. At first I thought it was just the young staff here but in the past few days, I've heard it on TV over and over again. Who changed the rules and why? Enquiring minds want to know.

The baseball game is at 9:30 this morning. Then at 2 pm there is a meeting of the residents council. There are all kinds of committees here at the cult, plus every floor has a representative. They all meet once a month and hear from staff and each other. They had it on zoom last month which was very handy but today it's in person. It's not required by any means but it's interesting so I'll go.

Then tonight's buffet is beef strog. Their beef stroganoff is just delicious and freezes/thaws beautifully. I plan to get two dinners and fill up the freezer. I need to go promptly. I doubt they will run out but why chance it?

I’ve been hearing “Yep” as a response to “Thank you”. It drives me nuts.

I was curious and looked up 'of course' as a reply to 'thank you'. A therapist on YouTube says it a lot.
Apparently it's seen as a warmer, more genuine way to respond, as in 'of co4I wanted to do this for you'.

I don't use it myself, I'm not sure if I like it or not. It's obviously not as self-explanatory as other replies.

I haven't encountered "of course" as a response to "thank you" yet. I suppose I'll get used to it if it gets popular in my environment, but I kind of hope it doesn't.

The funniest "you're welcome" variation to me is "my pleasure," especially when said almost seductively. There was a receptionist a coworker and I encountered a few times like that.

I'm obviously cool, because I'm in the "no problem" camp. I would be embarrassed to say "of course" in that context. I feel like it would make me come off as arrogant.

In the past year or so Chick-fil-A switched to "My pleasure" as their response to Thank you. It can get slightly obnoxious with thanks for taking order, drink delivery, food delivery!
