Knives Out

There's a group of old men here (guess I could skip the 'old') who are seriously into wood. They call themselves the Sawdusters. They have a shop - really two with all kinds of tools and wood shit. They make toys and build stuff. All volunteers. And they sharpen knives. For free. I have two that are ready for some love so I filled out the form. Last night a guy called me and told me to take my knives to Dave Butterfield and just ring his bell and tell them they are for sharpening.

Yeah, nope. I packed them up and wrote a note and sent an email and dropped them off on the way to the pool this morning. No bell ringing. He and his wife live right by the pool. Easy peasy. And way better than driving somewhere weird, and paying $80 which is what I did last time.

So since I had to take the knives anyway, I went swimming. It was lovely. I was all kinked up. The sleep masked worked fine - ish but both cats were in the bed and in my way. They are going to get kicked out if they don't learn to share the space better.

Turns out when you have your eyes covered, you can't just roll over and check the clock. And waking up the morning is very disorienting since it's pitch dark and then mask off, it's total daylight. Needs some getting used to. BUT at least I didn't wake up at 4. I slept til 6:30 which was good.

The baseball game is at 10:30 today and then there is the puzzle to finish and really that's about it for plans.

How does one package up knives? Other than "very carefully" LOL For real though - I'm visualizing wrapping them in bubble wrap and the bubbles popping? And any paper wrapping would be subject to the blade just slicing through!

I am so lazy at night, that when I wake up and want to know what time it is, I won't even roll over and open my eyes - I just ask Alexa :D

I wondered the same when thinking of the safest way to send knives to the landfill. I found a suggestion to wrap in paper then in cardboard.

Turns out when you have your eyes covered, you can't just roll over and check the clock.

Funny how that works. My trick is looking up to read the clock on the headboard on the first night of the spring spent in Gloucester, where there is no headboard and the clock is on my bedside table.
