Biggie is not your usual cat
May. 28th, 2024 08:35 amA lot of yesterday was spent in the elbow and walking Biggie back home from the elbow. Turns out there is no way I can leave my door unlocked that he can't figure out how to open it and get out. Then the gate I ordered from Amazon arrived.
He pushed that over. I velcroed it to the walls and, after quite a bit of time thinking, he just hopped over it. I gave up.
Finally, I studied the latch/lock/handle situation and grabbed a COVID mask which works easily and nicely allowing me to close the door completely while keeping it unlocked.
Meanwhile my floor mates were all hugely amused. John, particularly... 'He's not a normal cat!' But everyone was delighted at his antics.
So FAQ's.
1. If everyone loves him, why don't you let him roam? Because 1. they might just be saying they love him and are really annoyed. 2. at least one person who is on this hall a lot is very allergic to cats. 3. a lot of people who walk this hall are not that steady on their feet. Being tripped up by a cat is not what they pay the expensive rent for. and... 4. He will get on the elevator and terrorize other, maybe not as friendly floors.
2. Why don't you want to lock your door? Because 1. why? we don't have burglars and I don't have diamonds. 2. the unlocking is swiping a card so I have go get the card out and swipe and turn the handle. a one handed push is WAY easier. 3. When people come to visit, I would have to get off my ass and go open the door when just yelling 'come on in!!' is also way easier.
So that was yesterday. Today, problem solved with the mask. And I already have on Amazon return so now I'll take the gate back and have two. Also I need to pick up Biggie's drugs.
And speaking of him... he threw up twice yesterday but the second time was just a hairball. I learned early on to keep a list of things like this so I went to the list. Turns out, the last week of the month, every month, he throws up. No other times. The 28th of March, the 25th of April, and the 27th of May. Weirdo. He's fine today, eating and bugging me and trying to get the door open (and failing!! woot!)
Besides the errands, today is housecleaner day. So busy random Tuesday.
I was thinking that we might have a small-ish crowd for volleyball - Memorial Day hangovers - but nope. Every single person turned out today! It's the first time since I joined up last November, that everyone has all been there on the same day. 14 of us. It was almost too many players. But, it was fun.
I got up early this morning so was kind of taking my time feeding the cats and doing stuff and noticed that my breathing was not good. Fuck. I dug out one of my albuterol inhalers and used it and very soon noticed all was fine. This would be a perfectly acceptable situation. Albuterol is generally covered by insurance but even if not, it's not terribly expensive. And it makes me wonder if one of the OTC inhalers might work as well. It's now been 3 hours and I'm still fine and breathing like a champ.

Well, I guess I'd best start thinking of solutions to Kaden's door handle tricks.
