Stress Level Plumet
Jun. 6th, 2024 09:58 amI just got off the phone with the insurance guy and whew! He was great. He answered all my questions and gave me great info and great advice. I learned a lot of good stuff but mainly I learned that there's nothing I can do until October and in October, he'll advise me on what to do and then do it for me. So yeah!!
The decision about what company has been made by me - Premera Blue Cross. So now it's Advantage vs Supplement. And, if Supplement, which variations.
He had a great analogy. Supplement is a one price for all you can eat buffet. You pay when you walk in the door and then you can have whatever you want and as much of it as you want. Advantage is more of a cafeteria. Yeah there may be a table of free drinks or complementary desserts but mostly it's pay as you go.
For me it's liable to to mean paying about $300 a month (Supplement) or paying $0 a month (Advantage).
But I may not have a choice. There's a test. If I fail, Supplement is off the table. And at my age, passing is really not likely.
Two other tidbits... 1. Washington State has way better insurance options for consumers than most other states. and 2. Premera no longer requires referrals (which is huge in my case and would make a big difference if I were to get stuck with the Advantage option).
I feel so much better about the whole damn thing.
