The goals - for the eye doctor visit were to not have glaucoma, not hate the place and not have to go back for another year. We missed the mark on the year deal - 6 months BUT only for one test and a look see, no dilation.
But the rest was great. Just great. Virginia Mason is a gynormous doctor deal here in the Pacific Northwest. I have never used them or gone to them except for information until today. Their offices in Issaquah are average size with plenty of parking which is lovely and VERY dated. They were spiffy and modern and new in the 70's. Today, not so much BUT, I did not go for the decor.
The receptionist was lovely and efficient and nice. My appointment was for 1:50 and I was called back from the waiting room at 1:48. The technician - traditionally my first point of annoyance with any doctor visit - was lovely and smart and not working from rote and was very efficient as well. She's someone I could do a beer with.
The actual doctor was interesting. He is very young and clearly there with a job to do. He was nice and not gushy. He told me the minute he pulled up my chart, that my macular degeneration was far more concerning an eye issue than any chance of my having glaucoma. And the macular degeneration was holding its own - just keep taking the AREDs 2. He wants to check again in 6 months but made it sound very much like no big deal. He gave me plenty of time to ask any questions or voice any concerns but I didn't have any. He did not over explain anything or talk down to me in any way and I felt like he knew exactly what he was talking about. Mainly all I felt was giant relief.
I stopped at the general receptionist on the way out to ask about the new Primary Care Doctor and got a name and a picture of her!! Yep. A her and she looks very newly minted and not inclined to retire in the next 40 years. But, she's not in their system yet. The receptionist told me I should start checking (stalking) in July.
So really, a success and a relief.
My eyes are still dilated and funky but they will be fine, soon.
