I just got out of the Food and Beverage meeting which was, once again, interesting. The head Food and Beverage guy does fine with food and beverage but has the personality of a rock and not an interesting one. Part of the problem is that his two predecessors (yep, this is the 3rd F&B dude in six months - one was temporary but still) had personality coming out of their ears. They were both delightful people. This dude is a dud. But time will tell if he can consistently deliver the eats.

The chef is an asshole but aren't all chefs?

The talk of the town was premiered. The price of the meals is going up. But also, our $400 is going to $600 and our monthly rent will remain the same. This has been hinted at before but the dets are out now - August 1. The shits going to hit it tomorrow at the residents update meeting.

There was also lots of discussion about buying organic foods. The price differential is significant. Plus the shelf life sucks so no. But the holier than thou on the committee are all up in organic arms. However, one committee member did pipe up...

"As far as I'm concerned, buying organic is a waste for us, it's not like we have all that long to live anyway."

Sing it, sister!

I agree - it's a bit late in the aging game to care about organic and antibiotics, etc.

Yep, this is what I keep telling my 86 year old mother. Who cares if it's healthy? EAT IT.

Chefs are assholes, bakers are nuts. This is a known fact. Cooks, on the other hand, are a strange breed.

Unless it's been years since the meal price went up, a 50% increase is bonkers and outpaces inflation.

Shame on TR for that one. (assuming it's TR and not a contracted 3rd party).

I think you reported previously that the food plan was not optional--right?

It's not clear that organic produce is necessarily healthier for the people who eat it; primarily the idea is that it's healthier for the planet, but the definition of "organic" is so vague that it's not even clear that that's true either. The only thing everybody can agree on is that it's more expensive.
