But the food is the best

There are a lot of good things about living here in the cult. A lot. But the food is the very best bit.

After year of cooking for one and shopping for one and planning meals for one, all of which I really did not enjoy at all, here is heaven. The eating was good it was the rest that was tiresome year after year.

Now I just pick from the menu - there are about 14 options for lunch every day and twice that for dinner. Sunday is only brunch but it's an expansive menu there, too. It's the leftovers, I think I like the most.

The best example is last night. I ordered steak. It comes with 2 drinks and 2 sides and a salad. I got lemonade and diet coke and grilled eggplant and garlic mashed potatoes and a small wedge salad. ($18 total)

The steak was cooked to my liking and the eggplant was surprisingly tasty as were the potatoes. I ate til I was full - less than half of the steak. It was more than plenty.

This afternoon, I enjoyed the lemonade. (The Diet Coke is in a can so it will be a treat later in the week.) And just now, I took out the wedge salad and sliced up the steak. I added some peanuts and blue cheese dressing and made the best dinner salad ever!

Tonight I'll finish off the ice cream I have in the freezer, with one of the cookies we got last week with lunch. It's a luxurious life for sure.

You lucky duck. I've been looking at cooperatives that have a chef on site. I would hate to move again, but I'm really sick of cooking for myself.

Does the $18 steak dinner come out of the $400 (soon to be $600) that you're charged for food? And you can add more to a debit account as needed? Or are you charged a monthly fee for food service whether you use it or not, and then also pay per meal?

Yes the $18 comes out of the food allowance that is part of our rent. If you go over the allowance the Delta is just added to next month's rent. And yes, you pay the food allowance whether you eat or not.
