Playing it forward
Jul. 30th, 2024 01:05 pmSo, like all of us on the third floor, when we need shit, we go riffling through our neighbors's storage units. Yes they all have locks but few of us lock them. Success at the first one - Joan's. A long rod with a hook. With it, I was able to get out a couple of cups worth of wet lint. (Then, of course, ordered a long brush and a long, skinny vacuum attachment from Amazon - be here tomorrow.)
Just as I got to the end of the project, Myrna comes in and she is spitting bullets. She's trying to cancel her car insurance and apparently has been at it a while and she's at the end of her rope. She had all the pertinent details so I sat her down and called the number and the wait time was 10 mins. They had a text option so I started that. We were in a race to see who would win. Phone call did. "Hi, I'm Myrna Downs and I need to cancel my car insurance because I no longer have the car." Easy peasy. The nice lady sent an email and we went down to Myrna's to get it. We signed it electronically and now she has a lovely note saying the check is in the mail. She was so grateful. I was delighted to do it.
She manages so much on her own and managers it really well. I'm so happy that she comes to me when she hits a problem. Especially one so easy to fix.
So then we went down to lunch and had a great lunch and a great visit. Now I am washing the quilt off my bed. If it does not dry, I'll take it down to Myrna's and use her dryer. If it does, I'll cancel the GE appointment.
Oh and I'm baking some curly hair. I've had yarn wrapped around a chop stick soaking in water for an hour and now I have it baking at 200 degrees.
The housecleaner comes in about 20 minutes and then I'll head out to UPS for returns and the vets for pills.
Oh! We found out a fun lunch fact today. We have a favorite waiter - Justin. He brings us extra cookies and makes sure we are served well and entertained. Today Myrna and I got there before Hazel and John and Justin was chatty so we grilled him about his wife - he mentions her fairly often and we wanted details. Turns out she's from Brazil and came up here for college. She just recently got a hot shot new job at a local university running the student housing office. "So," I said... "you spend your days with the olds and she spends hers with the youngs. You dinner conversations much be hilarious!" He said they really were. We made him promise to bring her for show and tell some day. (He did have a photo and she's just gorgeous.)

I LOLed at your waiter and y'all wanting him to bring his wife for show and tell. I used to lead worship services at a retirement community near my church when I lived in Texas and they wanted to meet my husband. I got him to come by telling him it would count as my birthday present, lol. We don't buy presents for each other on holidays. We do spending time together sorts of things, so not as weird as it probably sounds, at least not to me.
