62 degrees

As I type this, it is 62 degrees on my terrace and cloudy. I know we have hot sunny days left but not that many. This morning I was able to play volleyball in my preferred position. I think the worst of summer is behind us and I'm very grateful.

The GE Repair tracker says my technician will be here between 2 and 4 which is pretty fine. The house cleaner will be here between 1:45 and 2:30. I'm guessing she'll be finishing up about when he arrives. Be nice if I got the same technician. But, either way, be VERY nice if my washer got fixed. I have a very full dirty clothes hamper.

I canceled my podiatrist appointment. I made it eons ago and this week was the first opening (she's only here every other Thursday so appointments are scarce). I'd still like for her to check out my feet and make sure there's nothing else I need to do. They were in such horrible shape when I moved in here and she fixed them up and told me how to take care of them and now they are actually in pretty good shape, I think. No more cramps. No more gross skin issues. One minor-is toenail situation and no -knockwood- gout. I think I'll save the $25 co-pay and sign up for an appointment in January when the new insurance kicks in.

Hazel and John and Myrna have come to rely on my phone for info of all kinds. John said yesterday "I know we made fun of you and your phone but now we'd be lost without it." I told them yesterday we were getting a new model soon and they are hilariously excited about it. But, really the only benefit to them is longer battery life. Turns out they are fine with that and are now focusing on what color of case we're going to get.

A fair number of folks here have cellphones. About half have feature phones - phones made for old people that do very little but are dirt simple to use. The rest have smart phones. Of those who have smart phones, I'd guess that less than half know how to use them. Most are iphones that their kids or grandkids got them. They can text or call and maybe check email "My iphone doesn't have email" says Bonny. "But it's fine, I don't need email."

Time to go find some clean clothes to wear today.

The idea of a community smartphone is lovely, and so are you for gregariously sharing your phone. I hope your sharees can decide on a good color for the case and don't quarrel about it.

62 and cloudy is about what we're having here right now, but we don't consider the good weather.

Old people and their phones can be hilarious. My parents each have a very old-school flip phone that they never use. They dutifully carry them when going out, but never turn them on. Every once in a while my dad looks longingly at my smart phone, but the man doesn’t use email, doesn’t text, and usually won’t pick up the landline phone. What would he do with a smart phone?
