Now... this is what I'm talking about!
Aug. 25th, 2006 08:02 amCheck out next week! Could it be that we really have only four more days of this hot weather?? (Ok, you guys in places that are really hot can quit guffawing right now. I don't live where you do precisely because I don't want to suffer like you do!) My sweaters are even getting excited.
My dentist appointment is Wednesday. Maybe this is god's way of telling me that there is reward for pain and torture?
I'm meeting my friend, Elizabeth, for a late lunch today at Elliot Bay Books. It's only a couple of blocks from here. They have a pretentious little lunch counter in the basement that everyone - including Elizabeth - LOVES. It's overpriced and too precious for my taste but it's handy and beats the hell out of a vegan or vegetarian place which would be her next choice. I've long had issues with the bookstore itself. It's actually a lovely place. Wooden creaky floors and walls and walls and walls of books. But their staff has always been mean and snotty. They never fail to make me feel as if they were so hoping for a better class of customer. It changed owners several years ago and the attitudes got a little better but not enough to make me want to run in and spend money buying books there.
Tomorrow, my friend, Susan, is coming into town from Renton. Renton is a suburb which is really only about 15 miles from here but it feels more like 50 when you drive it and it's about 4 cultures away as well. (But, it does have the closest Walmart!) Anyway, she has to come into Seattle for something so we're meeting for lunch. My plan is to go to the new brew pub next door. I'm hoping they are open for Saturday lunch. It's likely they will be because there is a baseball game with Boston that evening and Boston fans pile into town and come early and loudly (read into that whatever you like).
I have a conference call at 10 so I'd better get to work and get some stuff done before that.

I have two friends who live in Renton, and both like to insist that I judge it unfairly and that there are plenty of great and unique things to do there. Well, 1) I have yet to find them; and 2) whatever they are, they're clearly not for me.
"4 cultures away," indeed.

Date: 2006-08-25 11:42 pm (UTC)I will never get snarky about appropriate weather complaints.
If someone lives in Arizona, they can bitch about cold if the temp only goes down to 80. If someone lives in Texas, ditto.
If someone lives in or Maine or Minnesota, I'm not quite as sympathetic when they bitch about cold.
I'm not saying it's fair or even nice I'm only saying there are rules I go by. :)
Bottom line? You're safe!
