It's peapatch season. The tomatoes and cucumbers have now reached sufficient numbers that they are being spread around like footballs of zucchini in a cul de sack. I like to peel a little of the cucumber skin off but with a potato peeler so as not to get too much cucumber. But, alas, my potato peeler didn't make it to Timber Ridge.

Not a tragedy really. SteveFromVolleyball said he was going to drop more cucumbers by tonight. I'm turning them all into refrigerator pickles which I am enjoying tremendously.

It's finally happened. The Mariners have gotten so bad that today I am going to elbow coffee instead of watching the game. I could field a team from assisted living and beat the Pirates right now. But the Mariners can't. I've watched them lose for 30 years and I'm not done but I do need a break and today is it.

I might see if Myrna wants to go to Safeway this afternoon. Or I might just sit here and knit bears.

This morning's shelf.

Do people grow things on their balconies? Or is there a little community plot of land?

Safeway had good deals this week! Sometimes they don't have anything that I want, but this week, I scored some good stuff! And went back this morning to get the strawberries that I forgot yesterday :D

Brooksby also has a bunch of garden plots in various sections of the grounds, including along the walkway nearest to our building. Some of them are quite impressive. I'm not aware of anyone distributing extra veggies. I don't know the process for obtaining such a plot (I assume there's a waiting list), but of course as long as we have Gloucester we're not interested, and once we give up Gloucester it probably means that we've given up gardening.

I've been wondering what was happening to the Mariners lately; maybe that run of success was one of those illusions that borderline teams put on occasionally (the jury is still out on whether that's true of this year's Red Sox; I suspect it is).

The shelf looks rather depleted.
