Weather, we haz it
Aug. 18th, 2024 08:06 amI was raised in the southeast where thunderstorms can be a nightly event. Once, in South Carolina, I had a bolt of lightning come in one bedroom window and exit another while I was in bed watching. I love a good thunderstorm.
But, here in Washington, lightning and thunder are rare. Which is good because when they do happen they usually cause forest fires. (Also the teenaged news people always crack me up warning about the dangers of thunder.)
Last night, however, we had a show. A massive storm that light up the sky for about 45 minutes (or at least until I went to sleep). When we were little, we were told to count the seconds between the bolt and the thunder to know how far away it is. Turns out, without thinking, my brain still does this automatically! Mostly last night's storm was a good 10 miles or more away. But it sure was pretty.
And we got some rain. Not Seattle mist but real rain. I have rain drops on my windows so there must have been a fair amount of wind as well.
Then, this morning, I got up to a normal morning and, then, after a bit, a fog rolled in and blanked out everything for about 15 minutes. Wild. Now things seem to be back to normal.
I got up at 5 and fed the cats and went back to bed and slept wonderfully til 7.
I might go to Target today - I want that potato peeler and Target is the closest/easiest option. Otherwise, I'm thinking TV and knitting and maybe some puzzling.
This morning's shelf. I need a better recording scheme. Two of the things I made yesterday, did not make it to this morning and so didn't get recorded. I think/hope that Steve snagged one when he dropped off a baggie of cucumbers and tomatoes last night. Maybe I'll take a shot whenever I add one.

Date: 2024-08-18 07:12 pm (UTC)I'm glad I was NOT in our Hilton Head house when lightning burned a 3-inch hole in the side of our house (different storm, different year!), splatting shards of drywall around the room. We were relieved it didn't burn down, but I wonder what it would have been like to be there!!
South Carolina is ground zero for thunderstorms!
Ha! thunder danger...
