The easy life
Aug. 23rd, 2024 07:36 amI woke up way too early but had a decent shot at going back to sleep. I was snuggled in and thinking about things. For some reason I was thinking about clipping Biggie's nails. Without moving, I opened one eye to see his face and inch from mine just staring at me. Of course, I had to laugh. All hopes of resleeping got laughed away.
It was lovely, actually, to be up in the dark. So cozy.
It's a perfect swim day. I'm up early enough and the clouds and fog are thick as thieves. But, I'm not going. My arm/elbow felt fine all day until the brace slipped off last night. I immediately felt a twitch. Not horrible but clearly not fine. This morning I felt it again so the brace is back on and all is good. I'd rather play volleyball tomorrow than take a chance and swim today.
Most all of the people who had to move out of their apartments because of the water damage from fire sprinklers less than 2 weeks ago have had their apartments repaired and have moved back home. (Most units had to have drywall work done and floors replaced.) The only unit not completely fixed is the one where the fire was. It should be finished by today.
My realtor, who's apartment suffered water damage last fucking January, probably won't be completely fixed until December if then but he will have to move in before then or start paying for living in my unit out of his own pocket. And that building has had lots of water intrusion issues over the years. My realtor's experience is not a one off.
I had a friend, who was rolling in money but always rented and never bought a home. "Why do I want house headaches when I can just call the building guy and he'll take care of whatever???" When he retired, he finally did buy a condo on the beach in Southern California. He died suddenly 2 months later of an undiagnosed genetic condition. I can still hear him saying from the grave "seeee????? told ya." Timber Ridge is sure proving his point.
And speaking of condo ownership... Because of the building repair project, it's been impossible to get a mortgage on any unit. The units that have sold in the past year have been cash sales. The ones now pending are hung up because the building can't get Fannie Mae approval so no one will issue a mortgage. But, on Monday, they said that the Fannie Mae peops had now come around, since the fix was finished. So the two pending units should sell and the two active ones have a better chance.
As much as I'd love to get out from under, Bret's flood was still the best thing that could have happened for me. It is highly likely my unit would have been an unsold albatross for this past year. At least I got a nice rental income and the best care of the place. so whew.
And now they are cutting interest rates. Double whew!
My finance transfer is moving along. I have my accounts all set up and ready at Stifel. I'd remembered how much easier and straightforward their website and app are but geesh. Flipping between them and Ameriprise is amazing. Ameriprise's guiding principle is Hide The Info.
Nothing special on for today. Tonight's game will be the first under the new management which would make it mildly interesting but it does not start until 7. My access to tv games ends on September 5.
