Today's volleyball was broken in several ways. Just not fun. But, it all started yesterday morning.

I was out in the elbow working on the puzzle and I smelled cigarette smoke - strongly and consistently for about a half hour. When the others showed up, no one could smell it at all. When we went downstairs for lunch, the smell was gone and it was only when it was gone that I realized how strong it was. (This is a very very very non smoking place. A lot of the staff - particularly the kitchen staff - smoke but they do it a long, long way from here or from any air intake of here.) Weird but it didn't happen again.

Then last night Myrna called me and asked if I could come check on her in about 30 minutes. She did not feel well. So I went in 30 minutes and she said she was really nauseous and felt bad. She asked for tea. And I told her I would check again before bed. An hour later, I went back and she was very much better. The second time, I took one of her spare keys so she could lock the door. If she took a turn she would call and I could get in. We visited for a while and then I opened the door to leave and there was Biggie. He waltzed into Myrna's apartment and proceeded to check every nook and cranny. She thought it was hilarious. Fortunately. I think it's wild that he found me. There are 5 apartments and the elbow between me and Myrna.

Wild.

Then, in the pool this morning, I smelled the smoke again.

I just googled and discovered that it's not very rare. And even more rarely fatal. Lots of people on Reddit smell smoke and just as many have reasons or theories. One entry got a reply that it was possibly a symptom of pregnancy. The original poster replied "I am a virgin and also male, so i will put it in the "unlikely" category." So at least I got a good chuckle out of it and also love that he didn't give it an absolute no.

Bad days good days. Since this smoke thing started yesterday morning, I'm declaring right now as the end of the bad day.

Oh also yesterday the fitness director held a little seminar on how to get down onto the floor and back up again safely. This was the 'billing'. I thought it sounded really useful and interesting and so did Myrna and Hazel and John and about 75 other people. Turns out we were all 100% wrong. It was boring to the max with only one little unscripted tip that I had not heard or used common sense to figure out. What an opportunity missed.

I checked in on Myrna on my way home from volleyball and she's good. She said she was going to call her doctor. She's suspecting the Jardiance. She did say that if the doctor wanted a urinalysis, she would get me to take her which is perfect. I don't want her to think her transportation options are a problem. They are not. I even have a full tank of gas.

I am paying $20 a month to Comcast for wifi. It's a special time limited deal that ends in October. I have no idea how much the bill will be starting in October but I am sure it's more than I want to pay. I have been dreading the phone call to cancel and the other day decided to check online first and see what I could glean there, if anything. Well, turns out, Comcast has revamped their billing system and the info you can get online and it's pretty excellent. The actual bill is quite clear and tells me that I am getting $40 off every month. Then there's another link where it tells me what my actual billing amount will be next month. Very helpful.

I've been monitoring the strength of my own signal vs the strength of the Timber Ridge signal and, honestly, there's not that much difference. Once October hits and I can see the next month's charges, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to cancel. If it turns out to be a problem, I'll call them and get them to connect it again.

I'll use the $20 to help pay for my health insurance. Unless I hit a snag there, I am going to abandon the Medicare Advantage Plan plan and go with Medicare assist and drug. This will change that charge from $0 to probably $100-150 a month. The Medicare insurance door doesn't open until mid October. So I'm in the dark til then.

Today is house cleaner day and errands. I need to do an Amazon return and then the dollar store. I have a list.

But I need to get dressed first.

I'll be the freak-out person here and mention that I've heard that people have been known to smell the smell of burning toast when they have a stroke.

But I just looked that up, and it's more of an urban legend.

It took me a while trying to figure out the connection between smelling smoke, Myrna not feeling well, and Biggie at her door. Quite the mystery. In my head.

Still working on it. Stand by.

My first thought was that Biggie took up smoking.

I walked through my living room once and thought I smelled cigarette/ cigar smoke - which had *never* happened in my house. Several times after, same thing. I finally traced it to a new hand carved wooden figure we had bought at a craft fair.

The cigarette smoke thing has been happening to me maybe two or three times a month for years now. In my case it smells more like stale cigarette smoke. I like to think itโ€™s a dear friend visiting me from the other side. ๐Ÿ™‚
