Slacker Sunday
Sep. 29th, 2024 07:28 amI woke up in plenty of time to get a good swim in before daylight. But, did I do it? Nope. I lounged around and internetted and coffeed and breakfasted. I might strip the bed - change the sheets and wash everything and put on a different comforter. So it's not like I don't have ambitions.
Today is the last day of the regular baseball season and I am shocked how little I care. Generally, I wallow in all the baseball today knowing it has to last until February but this year, I'm pretty much over it. I wonder if my baseball career is over. I'm fine either way.
I hate all my clothes and want new ones. BUT I do not need new ones. My clothes are fine. I just need to get over myself and quit online looking. When the condo sells, I'll reconsider but until then...
Tomorrow is the annual committee fair. There are 10 resident committees here at Timber Ridge. Food and Beverage is one and there's one for the library, and one for general ambiance and one for operations, etc. They are only for advice. They collect resident sentiment and then dispense it to the paid staff. The ambiance, committee, for instance, calls out things like signage that is ugly or misleading or furniture that could stand to be replaced or pictures on the wall that need dusting or fixing. Generally, a staff member - directors usually - attend the meetings and listen to the buzz. The Food and Beverage committee several times has requested smaller portion menu options and this week, for the first time, there are two items on the dinner menu that are reduced portions at reduced prices. Kinda cool, actually.
Anyway, once a year the committees shore up their mission statements and set up tables for the even to recruit new members. They make it a fun event and are known for giving away excellent door prizes in an effort to attract some action. I intend to go and sign up for Food and Beverage or Operations.
Some people are really into serving on these committees or serving as floor representatives, etc. And more power to 'em. But most people are not. Those that are can get kinda militant about recruiting. Yesterday John was talking to me and Myrna about another friend of ours who was pressuring him to get involved. He has a massive case of dontwanna. He appreciates what they do but he is retired and wants to stay that way. "My job is to look after Hazel and enjoy her for as long as we have left." I thought that was the sweetest thing ever. And Myrna and I agreed with him that that was way more important than any committee!
Ok, enough rambling. Probably I should at least get dressed and brush my teeth. I think I can do that much without damaging my slacker creds.
Shelf - I may have saturated the Timber Ridge doll market but I'm still enjoying making them so I'll keep it up. If the volume gets too much, I'll foist them off on Myrna or Noelle for the kids at their churches.

Date: 2024-09-30 02:18 pm (UTC)Well, except for that double-header today between the Mets and the Braves, brought on by the hurricane-induced postponements last week and the fact that both those teams and the Diamondbacks are contending for two wildcard spots. Or, as the article on the ESPN website put it, "The baseball season is going extra innings."
I'm not planning on watching the games, as I don't actually care which team wins; I'm not particularly fond of either the Mets or the Braves.
