The Next Big Worry
Oct. 2nd, 2024 03:38 pmInsurance. Health Insurance. To supplement Medicare.
I have used Humana Advantage now for years and years but if I stay with them, I have to have a primary care physician in Seattle which is not happening. My initial plan was to switch to Premera Blue Cross Advantage Plan but they no longer offer that here. (Advantage plans cost me $0 monthly.) So I'll have to start paying for a supplemental plan. And a drug plan.
I talked to the insurance broker guy today and his recommendation is an N plan which will cost me about $150. The drug plan will cost me $0 a month but also is worth that.
Turns out the drugs I take are all so generic that I can buy them from Cost Plus for the same price I would pay with $0 insurance. Except for the massively expensive inhaler that I use.
He found one plan that covers the massively expensive inhaler that I use. It's $100 a month and the inhaler would be $633 a month. So... nope.
BUT, between the times I cut back and the times I quit using it and the times Humana sent me an extra refill, I have a giant supply of the inhaler on hand and another 3 refills coming for free this year. So I can clearly slide by another year and maybe two. By that time, maybe I'm no longer even breathing or a new, cheaper alternative will join the mix.
Yeah for hoarding.
We can't do anything more until after October 15. We have a date on the 29th to get the application going. So now I'll worry about that for another month. Oh well.
