4 is death

Today is the first day of Medicare+ enrollment. First I looked at the changes in my current plan - Humana. yeah, nope. They removed the very few benefits I use as I thought they would. It's fine. I want a divorce anyway.

Then I started looking at the other options and OMFG. What a horrible rabbit hole. I found this guy a while back who is an agent. His job is to find the best options for me. His services are free to me. I thought he was great when I found him and then in subsequent conversations, I was underwhelmed. Now I am so very grateful for him. We have a phone date on the 29th. I'm putting it all in his hands.

My current option is free. My new option will be either $0 or $250 a month or somewhere in between. At least, for now, I have my drug situation under control.

I got control of the knitted dolls/cats/bears back. I made Martha her second one. Myrna's friend picked out a doll and a cat and sent the others back. I made some more. Last night, I put 4 on the shelf.

This morning, only the red headed one was left. That was a couple of hours ago. I suspect she's gone now, too.

Martha brought me a loaf of her very excellent banana bread. I reminded her to sign up for aqua yoga and she was all ready to, but would be the 4th sign up and that's a hard no. She was born in the US but is very Chinese and she said 4 is death in Chinese. Cracked me up. I offered to delete my sign up so she could have the 3 spot but nope. She's got a couple of weeks yet. The sign up thing is not really required anyway. But I did not know that about 4!

Volleyball was ok today. At least the pool was way warmer. It does bug me when I let the asshole ruin my game. On the up side, he usually bails at the halfway mark and did today.

It's house cleaner day. I love house cleaner day.

it's really interesting that 4 is death in japanese as well. also strange that the word is such a negative stigma lol. it's like when an american building avoids the 13th floor (which is even more strange imo because it's not like 13 translates to anything extremely negative)... humans are a strange bunch lol

In both languages, it sounds like the word for death, so it's not like it comes out of nowhere. I'd say there's a closer connection there than between thirteen and bad luck.

oh no, i'm agreeing with 4 = death, i was saying 13 being so negative in the western world is more strange. (especially for something as simple as bad luck)

Yes, especially considering the origins of it are so murky. Although there are murmurings about Judas at the Last Supper etc, unlucky 13 references didn't start appearing until after the Middle Ages. Amazing what longevity that stuff can have long after anyone knows the reason why.

I vaguely recall hearing a theory that the association between 13 and bad luck has to do with the number of people present at the Last Supper, but I have no idea if that is true.
