Today was the Washington state Shake Out - an annual earthquake drills. There is nothing that will get old men more excited faster than disaster preparedness. All the guys I play volleyball with and most of the guys on this hallway have just been beside themselves with preparation and excitement about this morning. Cracks me up.

I went to Safeway in hopes of avoiding it and I almost did. I got back in time to hear the 5 minute announcement which was really very clever and nice. One of the residents did the voice and she was crystal clear with a lovely tone and perfect emphasis where it was needed. She described various areas of Timber Ridge and what to do if you were in those areas and what things might be like - all the while reminding everyone that this was a drill and do not call 911. The whole thing was actually extremely well done.

Last year, after his last blockage-because-he-ate-something surgery last year (hallefuckinglooyah, it's been almost a year with no surgery!), the vet put him on a prescription diet. That sucker costs me nearly $200 a month and I'm tired of it. He goes back to the vet for a checkup in November. Between now and then, I'm going to change his/their diet - a bit. I'm going to start them on dry prescription food which I will water down. And also I'm going to start them on Purina OTC UR food.

I may regret this but I'm going to give it a try.

I watched Anatomy of Lies - a 3 part documentary about the woman who was a big shot head writer and producer on Gray's Anatomy for years and told everyone she had cancer and that her brother, who had abused her as a child, had committed suicide oh and the she had only one functioning kidney and had had a kidney transplant. Turns out she never had cancer. Her brother's abuse was throwing the remote at her once and pinching her another time and he's currently a practicing physician in Florida and not dead at all. And her kidneys are both fine.

It is a wild tale. Not particularly well done but pretty captivating. Peacock.

I have the loveliest view out my window every day of the year and today the clouds are just making a painting.
