Turns out 43 inches is my sweet spot.
Oct. 20th, 2024 12:43 pmI paid way too much for my LG TV and I have hated it since about day 3. The picture that I spent all the bucks on - to get the best is, at best, meh. Probably because it's on the best in the gynormous size TV's. The tv's interface is the big issue - that an the remote which is pretty much unusualble and required if you want to use the tv's interface which I do not.
I've been using Roku since that day 3. And it's great, except when the TV's OS wants something and then all watching ceases until it gets what it wants which involves digging out that horrible remote, etc .
The other day it wanted an update. Don't even get me started. I'm already started. This morning it refused to let me watch until It had the update which took 45 minutes to download and install and then required a hard reboot which is 87 button presses on the ridiculous remote or removing yarn to get to the fucking plug.
I was done.
I found the TV I wanted at Best Buy 43" Roku TV, got my brother's opinion and headed out. I got there at 10:20 but they open at 11. I sat for a while and then remembered Target where I get a 5% discount. They have the one I want and were open. I went to get it. It's fucking huge. I told the kid at the checkout I was worried it would not fit into my tiny car. He could have cared less but I'm not sure how.
I bought it anyway and got another kid to help me stuff it into the car. It FIT!!! But a 43.5" TV would never have made it. I got it home and wrestled it into the apartment. It's actually not that heavy, just a little awkward. But manageable. I was putting the feet on when something on the box caught my eye. FUCK!
I'd gotten a TCL Google TV. NFW. No way never. So I stuffed it back into the styrafoam forms (no easy task) and wrestled it back to the car, back to Target, got my money back. They did not have a TCL Roku TV but they did have a Roku TV 43 inches 4k. $230 with tax. I now have the legs on it and Julio is gnawing at them while I take a break.
Next I'm going to unhook the stupid LG one and hook up the new one. I'll give the LG away. I don't even want it to replace my now really old one in the bedroom. I never want to see this thing again.
Adventures. AND steps. Since the TVs are in the back of the Target store.

Date: 2024-10-20 09:37 pm (UTC)Out of curiosity, was your objection to the fact that it was a TCL, or that it was a Google TV? The one I've been eyeing to replace our Samsung with the odd bright spots is a TCL. Not sure if it's a Google TV or what, as I have cable, so don't care (not even sure what Roku or Google TV is/are, tbh, I'm assuming that since I have cable, it will work with cable and I don't need to worry/bother with Roku/Google TV). I'm just looking for something that has good reviews and is reasonably priced.

Date: 2024-10-20 10:04 pm (UTC)I am not a fan of Google TV - I don't like the way they lay things out and the hoops you have to go through to get to watch the shows you want.
I like Roku. It's simple, streamlined, easy.
It's personal preference.
I've had TCL TVs for years and they have been great. The one in the bedroom now is a TCL I bought 20 years ago - still going strong.
