Lan Wan thank you, ma'm
Oct. 22nd, 2024 04:53 pmSo. I have wifi coming in free. It's decent. Lots of my devices like it. BUT my printer and several of my cameras need a wifi with a password. The free wifi doesn't have a password so issue.
A nifty little work around is a pocket or travel router. This little gizmo grabs the free wifi and feeds it into my own router which spits it out password protectedly. Everybody is happy.
The little router was a bitch to set up. It shouldn't have been but I complicated it. Finally I cracked the code and it was happily receiving free wifi. Then I could not get it to send that signal to the real router. I tried and re tried. It's so simple. The thing is tiny - the size of a half a cellphone. It has a power port and an Ethernet port. What could go wrong???
Of course, the operator could be an idiot. I had the Ethernet cable plugged into the Wide Area Network (translation - this is the plug you would use to send signals directly through a modem to hook up to the outside world - Wide Area). I moved the plug to the Local Area Network and boom! We have connection. All my devices are happy. The signal is strong. And I wasted an hour fucking around like a fool.
Oh well. All done. And now we test. The modem is no longer sending any into to anything. If all continues to work, I'll have saved myself $35 a month or a whole lotta glasses of wine a year. Oh I just double checked and my current billing cycle ends on the 31st. A week and a half should be plenty of time to noodle this out.
Myrna was still too pissed to get shot this morning. But she calmed down and we went to Safeway where she got both flu and COVID for a whopping $0 and was not even asked to show her insurance - only Medicare.
She says she's going down to Health Services tomorrow and politely demand an answer. I can't wait to hear that report!
