Goofus and Gallent
Oct. 30th, 2024 01:14 pmLast week I called Comcast to cancel my one, simple internet account. I got Goofus. I was transferred 4 times and it took 35 minutes. I was told I would get a $14 credit to offset the $10 cancellation fee. This latter never happened. Two days after the call, my bill says I owe $0 and next month I owe $0.
Myrna has had the same Comcast structure for 8 years. It's a bundle of internet + TV + telephone + hardware. $180 a month. Today's project was to call and cancel the TV and the internet. The cable TV and internet that she gets included in her rent is plenty. I did my homework. I had all her information. I called from her phone. I was prepared to spend the afternoon making this all happen.
I did start with a different number - in hopes of saving a few transfers. I was connected immediately to Gallant*. She was an Hispanic woman whose English grammar was impeccable and whose slow and careful pronunciation made her very easy to understand. I told her what I wanted. And she said ok. She repeated it back to me and then proceeded to make it happen. She apologized for the delay saying her systems were slow. She kept me up on what was happening 'I'm now verifying and I see the order has been accepted'. Without my having to ask, she said she would prorate the bill that had already been paid and gave me the exact amount. Then she told me what the new bill would be, explaining the next two bills might be different while the system catches up with the credits. Oh and I need to return the TV box - but I had 30 days and I could drop it off at a Comcast office or a UPS store. No return fee either place. I just realized the woman never even asked me why I was canceling or tried to talk me out of it. Cool!
I was off the phone, job done in 15 minutes. I was shocked. And, honestly maybe a little let down. hahahahaha Myrna's new bill will be $56. But probably she'll keep the TV box so $66. She is so excited.
AND... in other TV news, Brandon did come and show me how Myrna's TV was hooked up and we discovered that her DVD player is also, actually, a VCR!! (Anybody got a tape they wanna watch??) And since we're keeping the box, nothing has to be done at all to her setup.
So then down to my house. I bought a Comcast box off eBay that does not work because it's set for the seller dude's account in Spokane. I figured it was a lost cause. And said so to Brandon and he said 'heck, no! I just have to call them to reset it.' Soooo excellent. He would have done it then but had to be at a meeting. He'll be back tomorrow or Friday.
I finished up a cat this morning and added him to the basket.

He was gone by lunch. And when I came back from lunch, someone had left a package of embroidery floss!! I don't use it but, heck, I might start. Regardless, the gesture is so sweet.
