I went down to pick up my dinner to bring back up here to eat. The dinner pick up place is outside the cafe which is our informal dinner dining venue. I saw Steve, the lead volleyball guy, in there eating his dinner at the table where he often eats his dinner.

When my dinner came out I grabbed it and turn to go home when Holly comes running behind me - Susan, please come eat with me and Steve. Thanks, but no. I'm just going on upstairs...

Steve is nice but not the easiest conversationalist. Holly also plays volleyball and she's an airhead. Sweet but not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She had apparently asked to join Steve at his table. And now they wanted me. I was not interested but she was begging so desperately that it would have been flat out rude not to.

Steve and Holly both are widowed. They are in their 80's.

It was fine. We had a nice conversation. Then Steve went to get his mail and Holly walked with me to the elevator.

That's when she divulged that she didn't want people to think that Steve had asked her to dinner "you know how people talk around here". WTF???

If you didn't want people to see you eating with Steve, why did you invite yourself to eat with him? She won't be playing volleyball on Tuesday because she's going to the aquarium and doesn't want to get her hair wet.
