Nice end of the year surprise
Dec. 31st, 2024 01:08 pmNot an hour after I waxed unpoetic about the CPA, his office called me. "Your amended tax returns are ready." ????? ok.
So I went to pick them up. What the net? His bill was $790 (I expected about twice that). The amended return for 2022 now has a refund of $2018 and the amended return for 2023 now has a refund of $3384. I take back any snark I laid on that place. They rock. I signed the returns and paid the bill and then went to the post office which was a mad house and I didn't even care. The IRS will get my returns this weekend. (There is no electronic filing now so we had to kill trees. And, for some weird reason, the CPA didn't add by bank info to the returns so I will get checks in the mail. That seems so weird and retro and not secure. But, whatever.)
It's not anywhere near the $41,000 I had to pay BUT it's better than nothing plus now I have a GREAT CPA and I the proof of it.
Until 2021, my taxes were prepared by Gordon, a CPA. He was great. He did them for a good 20 years. And then the asshat retired. Do your own, everyone said. Turbo Tax is bullet proof. Er... I got 41,000 reasons that's not a good plan for me.
So in 2023, I tried to find a CPA and couldn't so I went to H&R Block. They didn't do so hot either.
My financial advisor is the one who said to find a CPA and redo all of it. Smart dude, that guy.
Lessons learned. Expensively. But at least there is some good news.
While I was at the post office, I got an email from the realtor who is supposed to be moving out of my condo today. He's not. He's now moving out next week. Allegedly.
And I got a note from my friends Scott and Julie in New Zealand. They are coming to visit in July and Julie's big question is... Since my address is now Issaquah, what does she need to plan on for Amazon delivery schedules.... hahahaha I love her priorities.
Time for house cleaner.
