New Shoes Times 2
Feb. 7th, 2025 03:55 pmYesterday I went out to UPS for Amazon returns and ran over what I thought was a branch. Today I went back to UPS for more Amazon returns and just as I got to the entry for here, the tire light came on. I turned right around and went to the tire store. When I parked, I looked and, yep, there was a big old nail. The tire store dude was, at first pretty snarky. Before I opened my mouth, he said 'I don't have tires for that green Smart car.' I showed him the nail and he said it was fixable.
Then he came in and said my tire was shot and it was the newest of the four and the other four were nearly shot and way passed their prime. He said he could get tires from his warehouse but it would take a couple of hours. With this big sale, he got nicer about the whole thing. They had a nice 60's radio station playing softly and moderately comfortable chairs and the whole thing took about 2 and a half hours and traffic coming home wasn't too bad.
$900. I probably should have shopped around BUT, between the time I parked and went in and then we went out to see the nail, the tire was flat. I have no spare. And no patience for tire shopping. So I considered myself lucky that it wasn't $1,000.
And, turns out, for sure I will be recouping the funds by not buying Mariners baseball on TV this year. They just announced the new broadcast teams. The only two announcers I could stand are both gone. The one I really hate is taking over as lead. The rest of the team consist of broadcasters who have subbed in the past and mostly been horrible. They are even bringing back the guy who was THE WORST ever.
meowmensteen and I call him Trucks, Trucks, Trucks because of a tv and he did a while back that still runs today and is one of the most annoying ever.
So. The radio side has pretty much escaped the horror of bad. One guy has been the announcer since Jesus was a baby and the other one is an engineer who was promoted and is actually not too bad on radio.
I ended up paying $100 a month last year for 6 months of Mariner TV. So, I figure my tires really only cost me $300 - a freakin' steal!!
Oh. The tire guy called my car dinky and then refused to give me the dinky car discount! I told him his review would reflect the rebuff. He laughed.
