Joan is 92, very arthritic and slow moving, but she's a talker. On the phone, face to face, everywhere always. Her bedroom and mine share a wall and I can hear her phone ringing (she has a fair amount of family and lots of friends) until I am asleep (it is not intrusive, just interesting). None of us really realized how much Myrna kept her under control. And now, she's out of control. Bonny says she comes down to her apartment a couple of times a day for no good reason. And she's always wondering through the elbow looking for action. She's very bored and lonely and boring and whiny. Nothing is ever good. She reads the newspaper cover to cover every morning and spends the rest of the day spreading all the bad news she's found.

BUT, since she talks to everyone all the time, she's a good source of info. She cornered me yesterday so I used it to find out that, indeed, Gail has gotten a space in the memory care unit here which is great news. Her family was so afraid they would not have room and they'd have to send her somewhere else. She'll be going in about a month.

Joan also says she thinks Myrna's kids will be out by the 28th. I sure hope she's right.

Today I'm out to CVS and UPS. My vast medical research says that the allergy pills I've been taking make 10% of the population drowsy. I'm so special. But, now I have the name of one for us 10%. Amazon will send it but CVS will give it to me for free with my health card so I'm going for free. The ones that make me drowsy are actually working fairly well and I'd like to keep that part.

Also I need gas.

I think I'm going to get exercised and dressed and get it all done and back in time for some puzzling before lunch. That's the current plan anyway.

Dana takes her Zyetec at night. It is a 24 hour pill so the drowsy part doesn't matter then. Plus she tends to have drainage issues so the doc thought taking one at night would help. I think the doc was throwing a dart at a target hoping to hit but not really knowing and I think it does not make any difference for her.

Mostly I think very few docs around here know shit from shinola about allergies. Turns out that allergies, the hay fever kind, are pretty complex and take a complex medical approach to solve. Or just throw darts and see what happens.

I take Loratadine (the generic of Claritin and Alavert) nearly every day all year, though I rotate in Fexofenadine (the generic of Allegra) in heavy allergy season, or when I'm expecting to be around cats.

Dyphenhydramine (the generic of Benadryl) is the only common allergy med that makes me drowsy, so I save that for when I need to sleep. (It's also in Tylenol PM, and I have half a jar of that left that I inherited when my mom died. It's probably long expired. Still works.)
