Volleyball was pretty much a bust this morning. Steve is the heart and soul of our volleyball and the best player. He scraped his arm doing something and didn't want to get it wet until it had a chance to heal. And only 4 other people showed up and 3 of those can't play for shit. So it was not fun. Finally 3 people left after an hour and we folded. I would have done some swimming but I've gotten lazy recently and left my swim bag at home so no goggles, no music. So I came home, got Bonny's papers and had breakfast.
The Timber Ridge Times is a newsletter ish thing that comes out every Thursday. Today's edition highlights one of my favorite workers. Chad is this great guy who came to Timber Ridge about when I did. He was a maintenance contractor. And also on call for emergencies. We have emergency cords all over our apartments and when you pull the cord, they send up someone like Chad. I have been involved in this 3 times. Two of those times, they sent Chad who was amazingly fabulous both times. PLUS! Very early on, Myrna and I were out in the elbow puzzling and missing an edge piece. Chad came through on his way somewhere and came over to see. We told him about the missing edge piece and he found it in 2 seconds. So now he always checks the puzzle - often whether we are there or not - while he waits for the elevator. He never fails to go out of his way to greet me.
Today's Time Ridge Times had a whole piece about him! He's now an official Timber Ridge employee and assigned to Briarwood (assisted living, nursing and memory care) mostly and the piece was basically about how wonderful he is and he sure is! Fun. The head maintenance guy. Anthony is pretty darned good at his job and hires well.
Another of my favorites - Tyler - was a server in the dining room. At Halloween last year, he had the most fabulous Teletubby costume I'd ever seen. When I first saw it, I nearly wet my pants laughing. He mostly worked at night in the dining room so I didn't see him that often but he still always gives me a warm smile when he greets me by name. Well, Anthony just snagged Tyler from the dining room to his building staff! He was up here yesterday doing something. He said he was very excited about his new job and that his costume for this upcoming Halloween is going to be better than last year's.
Convo overhead in the mailroom yesterday:
Old person Number 1 "I can't go because that's the day of my colonoscopy"
Old person Number 2 "Oh, that's right, you are still young enough for those, aren't you."
80 is the colonoscopy line.
Nothing going on today which is fine. I do need to do my full slate of exercises. I think I forgot yesterday. I decided that doing them on the floor was much better but much easier not to do. It's a conundrum.
I would really like to hear from the CPA today.
