I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying this romp through baseball land. I have always only followed one team and for the last 30+ years it's been the Mariners so it's quite interesting and fun to focus on different but same.
My first criteria is the broadcast team. Ideally, they provide good info - inside info is great. They should also be comfortable with dead air. Saying shit just to fill up the space puts them in the NoThankYou column immediately. I have a low tolerance for stupid talk. I'll give them one or two but after that stupid gets them eliminated. The last thing, which I really didn't realize until I hit it a couple of times yesterday... really bad grammar. Plural nouns take plural verbs, people. Don't break my ears.
The Phillies are in the right time zone, in the right league and their broadcasters are a pleasure to listen to. The color guy yesterday was John Kruk who, in his time, was one of the craziest baseball players ever. And as an announcer, he's pretty damn good. I gather from the chatter, he's not every single game and that's fine. (And, his grammar does jump the rails now and again but it's kind of in places where it might be ironically. Anyway, it's acceptable.)
The one thing I totally forgot to consider in the mix and, frankly, is a huge factor is the beloved Phanatic. One of my all time favorite mascots. And I love a good Mascot. The Mariners have the best one but the Phanatic is a very close second.
BUT also... The Cubs announcers do not suck. And the Brewers announcers do no suck. So... It could end up being Phillies with a side of Cubs and Brewers. But then we run into scheduling issues... like today. The Phillies and Brewers play at the same time. I don't like watching two games at once. So it will be Phillies at 10:30 and then Cubs at 1.
Yesterday, my friend, Martha, sent me a text with the picture of a knitted bunny using a pattern like mine. Her daughter had sent it to her clearly picked off Facebook. And then asked for one. Martha's one of these people who do for everyone always and is always on the go and knows everybody and every thing. She's a whirlwind. One of her 'jobs' is the equipment closet. She collects walkers, wheelchairs, canes, shower stools, etc that people no longer want (i.e. die and leave behind). And if you want/need one, just give her a shout and she delivers.
One time when Myrna wanted to go to the emergency room, I needed a wheelchair stat. I pinged Martha and she brought up two different ones so we could see which worked better. It was 10 pm on a Sunday. I o her. Plus she's a fun friend. She's in aqua yoga and we always go to the Food and Beverage mtgs together. Oh and her husband plays volleyball. So we're connected.
Anyway, why not make a bunny?!! So I did. And it was fun. I'm not wild about the ears on this first one But I shall perfect with the next.
I finished it too late to go out so I took it over to Martha's this morning. And put it on her shelf.
Biggie's driving me nuts right now. And I need breakfast. And to make up the bed and do my exercises and read Bonny's Sunday Times - all before the game starts.

Date: 2025-03-30 03:32 pm (UTC)Whew. I feel better. That was soccer, btw, not baseball. BB is different. Lots of time when there is not a game on and stories are great, if you know how to tell one.
John Kruk has one of my favorite all time baseball quotes: I ain't no athlete, I'm a ball player.
Yup. True words.
Glad to hear he's still talking.

Date: 2025-03-31 01:57 pm (UTC)I'm not overly fond of MLB mascots. (The Red Sox have a very silly one.) But the Phanatic is definitely one of a kind. (Auto-correct wanted to call it "the Phonetic".)
