I have seen all of the episodes of The Pitt (Max) and Pulse (Netflix). The Pitt, even with one episode left so incomplete, wins by a mile. Besides the great story line and great characters, the show has NO MUSIC!! I really don't like music as a character in a show. I especially don't like it when it replaces dialogue and nothing makes me pisser than when it obscures dialogue. And, the Pitt, has none of it! The Pitt lets me decide what is dramatic and what is not. Well, not entirely true, the editor had something to do with it but still. I so appreciate the no music (and what a $ savings!)

Pulse was all music in many ways, melodramatic and music as a character. And the lead characters was distractedly skinny which was exacerbated by her wardrobe and camera shots which made it even kind of creepy. But, hey, season 2? If you are there, so am I - maybe she'll snack in the interim.

OMG. I just got an email from SteveTheLawyer that he's sending a check via FedEx today. I am not doing a happy dance because 1. he asked me last week if I wanted the money sent directly to my bank or via Fed Ex and I told him directly and gave him the info he needed. Which, of course, he completely ignored. and 2. history shows that his 'the money is coming' emails are his way of saying have a nice day and have nothing to do with my actually receiving the money.

If/when he actually gets a check into FedEx, I'll get an email from FedEx with the actual tracking number and then we can think about happy dance. It won't be the same as selling the condo, but it will enable me to relax some of my austerity measures and the stress that has gone with them.

My tax return has still not gotten to the IRS. My email from USPS says there is an envelope from the CPA in today's snail mail. Maybe it contains the reason for the holdup.

We (those who live in this hallway) got an email from facilities yesterday that renovation work will be going on this week in #3408 and apologizing in advance for the noise/disruption. $3408 is Myrna's apartment. Joan says (and it rings true) that they don't do any of the new tenant renovation work until the unit is scheduled for occupancy. So.... do we have a new neighbor??

I am totally running out of pastel yarn!! I think after this weekend, we'll go back to dolls. I think I've done enough bunnies.

The Pitt is *awesome*. Please give Noah the Emmy now. And I never noticed the lack of music! Nothing ever good happens in that peds room with the animal pictures. Do not go into the peds room...

So, you mentioned that music can overwhelm the sound when people are speaking. You may already know this, but most tvs (and probably sound systems if you have one separate to your tv), have a setting that helps reduce background noises (including music, crowd noises, and explosions), so you can focus on the main characters speaking. On my old Sony, it was called something like “Night Mode.” As I recall, it has different names for different brands.

I discovered it when I googled “how to reduce background noise on a television” for my grandmother who was frustrated that she couldn’t understand what the actors were saying. I was thrilled to find it myself, because I have something called Auditory Processing Disorder, which means, despite having perfectly good hearing, my brain has a hard time differentiating background noise from speech.

These days I just use closed captioning all the time, but setting the sound to Night Mode made a big difference for me

I remember a moment in Ally McBeal when Lara Flynn Boyle walked past Calista Flockhart, they were both notoriously skinny. They are giving each other evil glares and one says to the other "eat a cookie!" in a threatening way. It made me laugh then and still does.

It has nothing to do with anything, other than your eat a snack comment :)

When Lara Flynn Boyle was starring on "The Practice", a friend used to refer to her in LJ posts as "Splinter".

We've mitigated the dialogue-obscuring music by using closed captions – which I don't really like, especially since it's aimed at people who can't hear anything, and so describes all the "scoffs", "sighs", etc., but it's nice to know what the characters are saying.

Joan says (and it rings true) that they don't do any of the new tenant renovation work until the unit is scheduled for occupancy.

Yes, that would make sense, assuming they do a certain amount of custom renovation according to the new tenants' taste. When we signed up for our apartment, they had us come in and make choices about flooring, cabinet doorknob styles, etc., and only started the renovation after that.
