The most delightful surprise
Apr. 25th, 2025 07:54 amBonny and I have been 'we should go to dinner together one night' for months. And finally, last night, we did. We went down to the more informal Cafe. There were no available tables and while we waited we ran into Gary and Ethel and so ate with them. Gary plays volleyball when he's not recovering from his knee replacement. Ethel is a delight. They were good friends of Myrna's and have always been so nice to me.
When Myrna was leaving for the hospital for the last time, she had one friend she wanted to call. Jan. She told Jan she wanted to die and from Myrna's end of the conversation, Jan told her exactly what she needed to hear then. When she was actually in the hospital, Jan and her husband called me (Myrna had told her to call me for updates) and asked if they could visit. Myrna said yes (the only people she said yes to). I was there when they came and they kind of swooped in with love and kindness and were so nice to me. I talked to them on the phone after that a few times. They called to check on me after Myrna died.
So last night, Ethel tells me Jan and Dick are moving to Timber Ridge! And... she says, with a twinkle in her eye... they are moving into Myrna's apartment!!!
When I got back here after dinner, I called them but got voice mail so I left a WELCOME NEIGHBOR!! message. They called back a couple of hours later and we have a lovely chat. They are in the process now of selling their house but are all ready to move in. Jan said that at least one of her friends expressed concern about their moving into Myrna's. I told her it would be like living in a Myrna hug and she said EXACTLY!!
I am so delighted. They are not only nice people but they can hear and see and have all their marbles. Hell, he still drives at night!
They also told me that they have met the woman who is moving into the apartment across from theirs - Gail and Roger's. She is a travel agent and Dick says he thinks she'll make a fine neighbor.
So... how about them apples! I can't wait to go tell Joan. She'll be delighted.
Today is new menu day. And that's about it for the agenda.
I'm midway into Season 2 of Night Agent (Netflix). So there may be some knitting and spying done today.
I unraveled parts of the yellow and red baby sweaters I got at Goodwill. The yellow was handmade and the red was commercial and had sparkles. Both were fiddly to start and messy (Thank you Dirt Devil) but the results were spectacular!
