On Friday afternoon, Marcie, from the doctor's office called me and left a message for me to call her. (I have signed everything and vocally told the doctor and Marcie, to feel free to leave any and all info on my voice mail.) It was 3 p.m. I called her back. The receptionist said she was in with a patient could I call back in 5 minutes. I called back in 5 minutes and she was in with another patient. 'I'll have her call you - what's your number?'
Since the last time they were supposed to call me, they did not, I explained that it was now 3:15, I assume that Marcie leaves at 4 on Friday and I did not want to spend the weekend worrying. She said fine.
Marcie called me back and told me that I did, in fact, still have to take the fucking potassium torpedo pill. Fine. And I'm grateful that I did not have to spend all weekend worrying about it and I'm confused why should couldn't have left that message on my voice mail. But, fine.
The phone rings and it's Marcie. 'The doctor wanted me to call you and have you come in for a fast blood test at your convenience because your glucose is a little elevated.'
I had a blood test on Friday and I had nothing to eat before the test. I explained this to Marcie thinking maybe I had 'fast blood test' confused.
No, apparently not. Marcie and the doctor were placing today's call on the blood test I had on the afternoon of August 28.
WTF???!! I know I'm not an important patient. Or an interesting one. Or a critical one. But WTF???
I'm not getting a warm fuzzy full of trust your doctor feeling here.
Marcie said she'd talk to the doctor and get back to me. Yeah, you do that. I'm going to have some chocolate and see if I can't work on this glucose level. Fuck.
Edit Later: Marcie did call back and she had it together and said that my glucose was just a little high and would I please come in for another test in 3 months. I graciously agreed and we hung up as friends. All's well that ends...
