Another DNS meltdown!

So I finished up all my work work - a good 5 hours worth and did a few chores. Then I got a paypal phishing email and couldn't remember the address to send it to so I went to the Paypal site and nothing. Nada. No action.

I could ping raw IP addresses but not domain names. Fuck.

At least I knew what to look for this time and had some tools that didn't work immediately but finally a combo of some winsock fix stuff and those universal IP addresses, I managed to get back up and operational. But this time all three computers had to be fixed. And I learned the new one has some kind of different WiFi (instead of Windows built in one) and either I don't know know how to operate it correctly or it sucks. I'm investigating.

My first day that I see kind of clear of work stuff, I'm going to dedicate to either fixing this for good or reinstalling the OS. http://www.cit.cornell.edu/computer/security/spyware/WinFix/

But, today that little adventure sucked the life out of my afternoon. On the up side, no new work came in. I'm caught up with the 'have to'. I have one largish job that needs to be done before Oct 8. I may do it tomorrow just to get it done. And a smaller one that has to be done by Tuesday afternoon. Ditto on doing that tomorrow.

Tonight is TV. The shows are stacking up on TiVos. It's wonderful to have such a menu to pick from. Finally.
