susandennisSo the trick to getting a good night's sleep on this crappy old sofa bed of Mom's turns out to be... the red eye. I fell asleep at 9 p.m. and was dead until 7:30.
It is more clear when I am here that Mom is not the Mom I grew up with. I think I get frustrated because she is so slow and so dull witted and so generally out of it. I keep thinking she's going to snap back to her old self. That ain't going to happen and I think I'd better just get used to it and enjoy the person that she is now. So I will.
She has steadfastly refused to get a cellphone. She can't think of a single reason why she would need one. I've tried 8 ways to Sunday. But, there is a little ray of hope. She's driving down to Jacksonville, FL to see my brother at Christmas and wants to 'rent' one for 10 days.
I convinced her that she could just buy a prepaid one like the drug dealers use and when she's done just toss it. I think she likes the drug dealer connection there.
I made a few calls yesterday and found that AlTel has the best deal in the area and they are having a free activation weekend so we're going today to sign up. It's a Walmart. I love that.
Of course, she'll probably forget how to use it or forget that she has it. But, maybe not.
