Well... ye old reinstall did not go so very well...
I slapped the CD in and did the deed and got totally locked out of the computer. No matter what I did, it rebooted. I couldn't get into safe mode because my keyboard is USB. I hopped into the car and ran up to the used PC store which is, thankfully, less than a mile from here. Snagged a PS/2 keyboard and scarfed up a PS/2 mouse while I was there. Total? $3.29.
Home to hear the Microsoft technical guy say that the only recourse was a clean install or a dual boot. Scrap that. Clean install.
Did it and then the computer couldn't find the network card. Called Dell. While on hold (thankfully they do NOT play hold music), I went through their troubleshooting thing on the website. It was not accurate but it did give me some ideas. While still on hold, I tried some stuff and finally managed to get it to see the card.
The above 3 paragraphs took about 8 hours.
Thankfully, I caught a break work wise and my wireless network never even hiccuped and I had my two other computers.
I'm now putting stuff back - anti virus is scanning now. Then webcams, office, front page, digital studio, google desktop widgets, the puzzle program... and whatever else I forgot.
