This and that
Nov. 9th, 2006 08:55 amThe computer is nearly totally refitted. I think I've remembered everything. Early on I discovered the joys of partitions and every computer I've had since then has had several. I keep the OS and easy to install stuff on C. D is for programs and pictures (like my puzzles). E is for downloads and other keepsakes and F is for the local versions of my website stuff. So when I reformat, the other things that get blown away are the OS and easily recoverable stuff.
In theory. In practice, I get sloppy so that's why I have Carbonite running.

My breakfast burritos experiment is coming along. The next batch needs to have cheddar cheese. And I've learned that the best freezer to mouth option is nuke for 1 and 1/2 mins and let sit for a bit. It makes for a nice, easy, tasty morning snack that can get me through to dinner if I need it to.

I join the throngs of those encouraged by the elections this week. I am astounded and so sad that my gay friends today have even less of a chance to have the same marriage rights as I do. But maybe those who have gained power will affect a change there. I hope so.
I am also sad for the ones who lost. Really, I am. I have enormous respect for anyone who devotes his or her time and energy to public service. Yes, there are perks and yes power is a drug and yes there is abuse and yes there are fools in office (maybe fewer now?) but all of them, every single one, has made sacrifices that I would note even consider to get there. I don't have the skills and I sure don't have the desire but what if everyone was like me? Yikes!
I remember one of my stepsons - he was 14 at the time - during an election year when we were discussing politicians. We were talking about how hard it was to hear horrible things about your family and horrible things about you. He pointed out that at least if they won it was worth it and they then had enough money to just thumb their nose at those who hurt them.
?? Er shall we look at the salaries of elected officials? Compared to corporate salaries, for instance... That led to the quote of the day when he asked - quite astounded....
"You mean the president of the United States is NOT the richest man in America????!!! Then why in the hell does he do it?"

I need to make a Costco run. It might not be today - I have work to do first. We'll see.

Date: 2006-11-09 07:25 pm (UTC)10" flour tortilla - scrambled eggs (I cut up that precooked bacon and thew it in along with some cream cheese), salt and pepper - rolled 'em up and wrapped 'em in plastic and stuck 'em in the freezer. In the mornings, I take one out and unwrap and put on a plate and lay the plastic loosely on top and nuke 1 and a half mins and let set for another min and EAT!
I think it would be perfect for kids.
