Mom (and Daddy, who was still alive at the time) moved into this place in January of 1999, the very minute it was finished. There had long been a nursing wing and a dependant living wing, but this was the first independent housing this outfit had built. And they did a great job.

It is apartments ranging from 1,100 square feet to 1,400 like Mom's and small free-standing cottages. They thought of everything and included it except internet connection. In January of 1999 broadband was too new here in South Carolina.

They are too far away from the phone station for DSL but the cable company has made a killing installing broadband internet access out here. They have a fairly good size computer user group and the internet is a big deal to a fair number of these old codgers.

I know my Mom gets pretty pissy when her connection goes down and today's outage was a big topic in the bar tonight. There were some unhappy Senior surfers... Do not mess with their internet connection, thank you very much.

Thanks! It's really comforting to know you are there. I've still got 3.5 days and I'd kill for a cigarette and they are very cheap here...

One of the Twinkies went home to Boston and I think another one is going to Hawaii next week. It's so wonderful not really knowing the details of their lives! Thanks for reminding me.

And I'd have to add to that other sentiment - don't mess with my internet connection, either. Looks like estis is thus far pleased with his cable.

No, no smoking - just really wanting one here in the land of cheap cigarettes where I used to go out on the terrace and close the door and have a few minutes with moi and the cig...

after father died in 93 we tried to get our mother to use a computer to help keep in touch...was a no go. wouldn't consider it. an electric typewritter was as far as she would go into the modern age. I think it is great that you mom and her friends aren't afraid of the computer or internet. really cool.
