Cleared away all the work. Cleaned up the kitchen.  Seriously giving thought to taking down the garbage.

But first... let's have a little fireplace fire.  It's been a long time.

Last year they closed off the chimneys while they did work on the roof.  So no fires.  And, of course, it did not take the 4 weeks they said. It took four months to finish - actually 6 before they got through and by then, it was hot weather.

Today, it's drippy and chilly and gray and perfect fireplace weather.

I used to be a fireplace snob. I can build an excellent fire with logs and newspapers.  When I moved in here - that first winter - I got a 1/4th cord of wood delivered.  That summer the bugs stayed.  The next year I bought wood in bundles from the grocery store.  The next year I bought presto logs and I've been using them ever since.  No muss.  No fuss.  Easy and nice.

I'm sure enjoying it today.

Presto logs are the best invention, and clean burning, good for the fireplace. I like those color things you put in too.

Enjoy it. We intentionally did not want a fireplace in this house since the one time it is cool enough for a fire is probably in the middle of the night.

Oh! I love fireplaces.
I'll bet Betty loves it too.

Whereas I kind of like the mental image of you out on the balcony with a splitting maul, reducing logs to kindling.

You probably don't like that image quite so much.
