The state of me today...
Nov. 21st, 2006 10:50 amI just can't shake this feeling that I shouldn't be here. I should be in South Carolina bitching about the heat, getting frustrated at the old people, being annoyed with Mom and generally wishing I was here but not actually being here. Being here feels strange.
Doesn't help any that last night I got sucked into a TiVo Dateline episode about a murder in Charleston that happened about this time two years ago down the street from where Mom and Dad lived to a woman they kind of knew. It was a rerun. I was fast forwarding when I saw the distinctive architecture of a downtown Charleston house. They don't make them like that anywhere in the world an a 1 second glance can tell you exactly where it is and a 2 second glance can probably pinpoint the neighborhood.
The news is all about traveling. It's worse this year than it ever has been before. You are allowed one zip lock bag and you are only allowed to put, I think, one child in each bag and they must be able to see through. It's all kind of yada yada to me at this point. All I really hear is ThankGodIDon'tHaveToGoAnywhere!

I finally heard from one of the cleaning services I contacted - it's actually the first one - http://www.aprillanescleaning.com/. He didn't call but in addition to the two messages I left, I also filled out the 'quote' form on their website and he finally replied to that one. 2 hour minimum - $80 for the 2 hours. I sent a note saying ok, I'll give it a try. Pick a time - soonish plez. No response yet. Probably won't hear until next week.

Sty still in eye but according the WebMD it will go away. And it hurts less than yesterday so I'm thinking it's already on the way out.

Date: 2006-11-22 01:13 am (UTC)Either I'm having a very blonde moment or I'm trying to tell what you meant. If I could put one child in a zip lock bag I'm sure I could travel much happier. LMAO
May you times of loss be far outnumbered by moments of gratitude in your many blessings, and joy in knowing you are not tracking parents who are hospitalized, comatose, or senile.

Date: 2006-11-22 01:30 am (UTC)And thank you. And yes, I need a high powered calculator to count my blessings. Seriously. I have and have had so much in my life. I'm very very lucky.

Date: 2006-11-22 03:53 am (UTC)I miss your itinerary and lively descriptions of your trip back East. You left me with a wise rule. Keep a few clothes and such ..knitting supplies on the other end!
I truly miss your Mom stories and like you, I'm staying out here in the West without any family...guess I'm used it by now.
May you enjoy a good Thanksgiving meal, wherever you will be dining this year. I'm having the traditional dinner at Noon with Gilda, who's now 96.
Do you hear much from your Mom's helper/assistant..can't remember her name?

One ziploc shall rule them all.
Date: 2006-11-22 04:32 am (UTC)You also cannot bring your own water bottle with you, though you're welcome to purchase water past the "security" checkpoint.
Who knows what's next (http://www.jimcarson.com/a/2006/11/nnwm_tsa_in_an.shtml), except the Bush terrorists have won.
