Stop... please
Jan. 26th, 2007 09:15 amCoincidently, my financial adviser called this morning as he is wont to do every few weeks or so just to see how things are going, point out that my convincing him to buy Krispy Kreme when it tanked was a great idea (which it was - we are both showing a profit there - me with my 60 shares, he with his 3,000) and other stuff. He loves to get all jiggy with the details knowing full well that my eyes are glassing over.
15 years ago, I got $30,000 from an IBM buyout and made an appointment to meet him and gave him all the money so that I wouldn't fritter it away. I've had a bazillion different jobs since then and made lots of money sometimes and no money others and all along the way, he's been the steady Republican in my life and I am so grateful. He's made me lots of excellent money. And my only fear is that one day he will retire. He's about 10 years older than I am.
But, anyway, I told him about the missing check (which is still missing today) and he got very stern and told me to call immediately for a stop payment and then follow with a fax and a written letter to provide proof. So, I did abandon my Wait Until Monday stance. I sent an email to the estate lady and explained the situation and asked her to stop payment and reissue.
Bless her she hopped right on it and sent me an email right back letting me know that they would get it done today. Whew. Now, I guess I need to figure out what to do with the replacement check. My nearest place to hand carry a deposit is 25 minutes away. Guess I'll drive over there when I get the new check. I an put it into my credit union and then electronically transfer it from there. I could get all crabby and whiney about it seems pretty petty when we are talking about free money here.
So, I think I'll just go back to work. The pre-Vista launch frenzy is in full frantic mode now and I suspect it will keep up until next Wednesday. Everyone has last minute URGENT BEFORE YOUR PRI 1 ITEMS instructions. I'm kind of in Watch The Cluster Fuck mode myself. I guess I'll pour more coffee and then get back at it.
