Random Thots Du Jour
Dec. 4th, 2002 03:44 pmI have needed a new rice cooker for a while now. I must have one with a coated pan. (I had one with an aluminum pan and it made my spine crawl everytime I touched it. I gave it away.) Anyway, I looked all over the web and the ones I thought I wanted didn't state for sure what kind of pan they had. So, heck, Uwajimaya is 4 blocks from here. So off I go.
Uwajimaya is a huge Japanese grocery store/book store/Asian food court/etc. It's a very cool place.
mindme talks about it fairly frequently and I always think of him when I get there. I think I'm going to find him in the produce section with his hand clutching his hair in dispair like one of his user pics. But, I digress.
They had, as you might imagine, about a gazillion different rice cookers - all sizes, all shapes, all kinds. I found the one I wanted. I would have gotten a fancier one but the small version of the fancier one was a Hello Kitty one. Does a pink rice maker make pink rice?
And what's the deal with Hello Kitty? I don't really get it. Uwajimaya had Hello Kitty stuff everywhere. There was a half an aisle of different types of Hello Kitty candy... The only English on the packages was Hello Kitty. I'm pretty sure Hello Kitty isn't American or British so why is it English? Why isn't it Japanese? Totally confusing. And why doesn't the Hello Kitty have a mouth?
Can you tell I'm kind of done for the day? And do you know what I'm having for dinner?

Date: 2002-12-04 07:12 pm (UTC)Seattle should be on your list, but...
Date: 2002-12-04 07:40 pm (UTC)We don't have the rain that people think we do but we don't have the sun either. This isn't the east coast and that's considered a good thing here. We do have such a varied and diverse culture. I was raised in the southeast so I should know but every time I go back I am struck by the whiteness of the population in skin color and thought and deed and food.
I love it here, but, I'd like some snow, please.
