Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] melodysk for letting me know about the Flickr refunds.  It took a bit of doing but I finally found the cheesy way they are doing it.  I sent my request.  I'm wondering if I'll see the refund.  Meanwhile I'm using FlickrDown to get all the photos I want to keep into Picasa.  I'm going to try and leave those that I have linked to LJ entries in Flickr in the free account that is left.

And I just got a note from the Microsoft beta program that they will be sending me my copy of Vista. I had totally forgotten about that.  I feel kind of guilty because I never did install the beta.  I chickened out.  But, if they actually send me a free Vista, I'll probably give it a go on the LifeBook.

I'm probably not going to install it on this desktop.  I'm getting my brother to build me a new desktop that will have Vista on it.  My work computer will likely remain Visa free for a while.  Since nearly all of my work is totally dependent on my ability to successfully access the corporate network and use all of the network tools, I am very hesitant to do anything that might jeopardize that until I have to.

Nice weekend.  This one.  I watched The Good Girl.  It's one of those that isn't bad enough to turn off so I just keep it running and pretty soon, I'm just sucked in and when it's done, I think 'hmmm that was a good little movie!'  One of my LJ friends mentioned it last weekend.  I forget who... so whoever it was... thanks!

I looked at Picasa and wasn't that impressed, myself. But, I might not have given it enough of a chance.

The thing with Flickr, for me, is that it offers a ton of really great features that I love -- tagging, grouping, the comments function, notes on the surface of the image, direct-linking without an annoying company label on it anywhere, and much more. Plus, there's the fact that I have many friends with Flickr accounts.

The one thing that disappoints me is to find that Picasa is associated with Google -- which I really, really love -- and Flickr is associated with Yahoo!, which doesn't make my life hell but has never impressed me much. In a perfect world, Flickr would have been associated with Google, and then I'd be happy.

It's possible that Picasa has just as many great features that I just have yet to discover, but with nearly 13,000 photos on my Flickr account, the idea of switching just sounds like way more of a pain in the ass than it would be worth. Knowing that Picasa is associated wit Google makes me struggle a tiny bit with it, but in the end, it's probably going to be more satisfying for me to stay where I am.

I haven't been prompted every minute to relogin to the Yahoo/Flickr cabal like I do for Yahoo mail. Is it possible they actually have it working correctly?

There are a lot of things I like about Flickr, including the community of folks whose photos I browse, the tagging, and the feature that lets you add snide comments to components of the picture. (The last one is really what sold me ;-)

(And dang, Machupiccu, that's a lot of photos. Here I thought I was doing okay with a paltry 1,088, or 91% smaller.)

Regarding Vista: I'm also on the receiving end of a free license and, frankly, and not sure if I'll install it on anything. My laptop doesn't have 20Gb free for the "upgrade." Reinstalling everything would make me very, very, very, very, very, very, very grumpy. It's too bad I couldn't get the Office 2007 package instead because I could use the improved Excel.

At least for a bit, Vista is not going on my work machine either. Several programs that I *must* have running are simply not yet available in Vista friendly versions. In the case of a couple of them, I'm rather peeved at the companies that produce them. Vista was out in beta for a year, three betas came out, and there were no changes to the api from beta 3 to RTM...so how come these companies don't have Vista ready versions of the programs?! Grumble grumble grumble...

I enjoyed that movie too. Sometimes smaller is better.

I bought a new PC in November and it came with the promise of a *free* upgrade to Vista . So on launch day I made the necessary online requests

My *free* copy of vista cost me £34.00 ..ostensibly for postage, packing and tax.

If it doesn't arrive in a gold plated box with accompanying armed guards I will be firing off a letter of complaint to Sony (the PC maker)

I'm glad you liked The Good Girl. I found it ironic that it was on cable in a little under a week after I'd rented it. [/taking credit]
