The slippery slope
Feb. 5th, 2007 03:56 pmI've joked for a long time about my outofshape-itis but I think the laughing is kind of coming to an end. I've noticed in the past couple of months that I'm losing more an more capacity. Heart and lung capacity. My limbs are fine. My ass works. But if I'm standing for any extended time or walking around, my shoulders start to ache and then my back.
My CPA's office is in an old building. You take an elevator to the 4th floor and then walk up two very steep flights to his office. I did it today. Climbed up. And then came home and it was about 20 minutes before I got my breath back and a solid hour before I felt ok again. I should mention that my CPA's office is a block and a half from here - so that's a 3 block round trip with two flights of stairs.
Yep, my dream of Olympic gold is dead.
But, it's ok. I feel fine most of the time and I am pretty much able to do what I want when I want and I'm perfectly fine with starting down the slippery slope. I have no death wish but I also have no desire to live a ripe old age or any old age for that matter. I'd like to be comfortable and I am. And when it's time to pick up the tax returns, I'm going to go to the 4th floor and call that cute receptionist guy and ask him to bring it down to me. I'm perfectly happy with that concession.
