Sure enough, Mr. Important delayed our meeting until he was sure I knew he was important. Then he proceeded to tell me what he wanted my new job to be. I proceeded to tell him that I liked my current job and at this stage in my career I really wasn't interested in taking on tasks for which I knew I do not have the skills and know I will fail.

I was really calm and rational about it all. I told him that if he thought the company really needed those skills and not mine that he should just replace me or find someone who has my skills AND the ones he needs. We chewed on this for more than an hour. We compromised about 50/50 but mainly I think he now knows that I am not someone he can just screw with and I know that he will listen to a well thought out proposition. It was a good but tiring meeting.

He did affirm that as far as he knows (and he's has talked to her) my boss is coming back in January. I haven't heard that she isn't, I'm just fearful that she might not.

I actually feel better about the job future than I did and than I expected to. But, I'm starving so I need to go find something for dinner. Still no snow here. Lots of flakes though - yuk, yuk, yuk

Glad to hear your meeting went ok. Hopefully things won't change too much.

I had many a battle with Mr. Big when I first came to this university. Now he leaves me alone as he knows I stick up for myself.

Too bad you aren't here. You could have some meatballs, scalloped potatoes, spinach and green beans. What a supper I made, thanks to my work getting out early.

these guys seem to forget that you have a choice in the matter ... and they often come to their conclusions before talking to anyone who actually does the work.

amazing.
