Carrying on the family traditions
Feb. 10th, 2007 12:49 pmMy father loved nothing more than gathering a group of people - most often the family - and planning a vacation, trip and/or even a weekend. He took event planning to a new level. There were tote bags, and matches and napkins... Every event had a name.
SCVBFWA - was a cumbersome acronym but looked nice on large Lands End canvas bags. (Super Celebration of Virginia and Bill's Fortieth Wedding Anniversary)
FASNYC - (I might have that one a little off) - Fun and *(I forget what the S stood for) in New York City - this was in the early 70's and we each got a gummed pad (like a note pad) of 25 virgin $1.00 bills. Plus the napkins and the matches.
I don't even remember the others - there were dozens. Each with napkins and matches and whatever else struck Daddy's fancy.
Today, in the mail, from my sister-in-law comes a valentine. In the valentine is a cocktail napkin. She notes that it's "for the re-wedding". Their 10th wedding anniversary is Wednesday and they are gathering all the kids (her son and my brother's two sons from his first marriage and their wives) and her brothers and their wives. I was invited in a very kind way (he told me that my sister would not be there and that neither of them would be offended if I didn't come but they wanted me to know I was welcome).
And the celebration has a name... Daddy would be so proud he would just be beside himself.

Ordinarily I'd guess "sex" but something tells me that's not the right answer in this case.
