up r down?
Feb. 10th, 2007 03:08 pmI've had my cpu under my desk now since forever. Well, since the house re-do anyway. It's not handy but it does have eye appeal cause you can't see it.
Now my brother is proposing a box with a clear side... I'm thinking of housing the next one on top. Easy access. Wonder if I can make it look not sucky. Hmmmm
I need to rethink desk arrangement anyway. The phone definitely needs to be moved. hmmmm.
My brother and I have a very stereotypical approach to computing. I like the girl bits and he likes the boy bits.
My eyes glass over when he talks networking or processors or RAID. I want to know what the case looks like, what kind of monitor I'll get and let's make sure the video is souped up to the max. Oh and yeah, I'm sure 12 USB ports sounds like plenty to you. It's my minimum. Gimme a 4 port bay, too, plz.
He's all over the server stuff, but if I happen to slip ftp or telnet into the conversation, I've lost him entirely. He could make a web page if his other choice was becoming a prisoner of war but he'd give it some thought first.
We're a good match. We're putting together a computer for me that is so much overkill it's nearly embarrassing. But I love it already and it's not even here yet.
I do need to give some thought to what to do with this one. It's perfectly functional and not nearly ready for retirement. There's an outfit here in town that provides tech support to non profit agencies. I may contact them and see if they want it.
I've done a bunch of work work today and three loads of laundry and now I think I'm going to do a little TiVo clean up.

Date: 2007-02-11 10:32 am (UTC)And no, 12 USB ports does not sound like enough to me. My file/print server box here has 15 ports...and only one is currently unused.

Date: 2007-02-11 04:58 pm (UTC)I'm glad to hear I'm not the only USB hog. I do have 4 ports on my monitor and think I'll get my second monitor with another 4. Plus, he's going to stick in a bay of four more. That should hold me until Belkin comes out with that wireless USB hub that I really want.

Date: 2007-02-12 02:48 am (UTC)Oh, while I'm here, something slipped my mind this past week. We're supposed to be attacked by the Giant Snow Monster again tomorrow and Tuesday (although we haven't had it as bad as NY, so it could be worse), but Wednesday or so I'll take care of slipping an envelope in the mail to you.
