This morning I was up and showered and futzing around on the computer when all of sudden my nose started to bleed.  And it didn't stop.  I've had maybe 4 nosebleeds in the past 2 years - all very minor - all stopping nearly immediately.  But this one did not want to.  It took lying down, head back and some time.  I think it's old age.  I don't even remember a nose bleed in the previous 55 years.

Probably it's the beginning of the end.

TiVo got me sucked into the Discovery Channel's Mystery Diagnosis.  Between that and ER and Gray's Anatomy and House, I am constantly on the prowl now for any symptom.  I'm not so much looking for a miracle cure as hints about how the end will arrive.

It appears that the nose bleed itself isn't going to do it. It's stopped now and it will be a while before I'll be comfortable enough to blow my nose but I'm sure it's symptomatic of some undetected genetic thing that should have killed me years ago but for some strange reason (pure thoughts?) has not.

OR it could be that I spend too much time by myself and am not quite busy enough...  Maybe?

I have a meeting at noon.  Phone meeting.

  • I sent off the first of my drug claims this morning.  I have to wait for bills to send the rest.
  • I sent back my latest GameFly game.  This DS Lite thing is sure baffling.  There seems to be so much potential and yet so little capitalization of same.
  • I mailed in my ballot for the March 5 local referendum which is the dumbest thing ever.  The details are too stupid and convoluted.  The mayor of Seattle and the governor of Washington are trying to see who can look the most ridiculous.  And, so far it's  win for both!

And that's what I know so far today.

OK, time to turn off the Discovery Channel and put on cartoons. :)

Actually, is it really dry there right now? I know that's when I'm more prone to nosebleeds.

Winter+Dry=nosebleeds. MDH just had one and he never does either. I had one when I was in Tucson for no reason I could figure.

I predict that it is not life threatening unless pod people caused it. Did they?

I can't remember if this has been covered in your journal before or not, but . . .

So what's to happen once you do up and kick it? Do you have some stipulation in your will or something, that identifies someone who has your password and can log into your account and let us all know you've left us? Because we'll all want to know, you know!

I mean, I suppose it's possible you could be the one to post an entry that says something like, "Okay, I'm off to croak now. It's been real!" But it doesn't seem very likely.

Rule of thumb for nosebleeds: if it still is bleeding after 20 minutes of CONSTANT pressure, it's time to go to the ER. Usually, it's just a blood vessel that needs to be cauterized (any part of the body from the neck up has a lot of blood vessels).

Another temporary fix would be to soak a cotton ball in Neo Synephrine, Afrin, etc, and stick it up the side that is bleeding. The decongestant med will constrict the blood vessels, hopefully allowing a clot to stop the bleeding.

Of course, preventatively, you can run a humidifier at your bedside, coat the inside of your nostrils with a thin coating of Vaseline, and use saline nasal spray throughout the day to keep things moist.

Week late and $7 short, but...

We're apparently in such a low-humidity situation (plus winds) that we've got red flag warnings out there. And guess who has a nosebleed tonight? Yup.
