Back to Texas
Mar. 3rd, 2007 11:34 amMy phone rang this morning at 8 am with the Microsoft next tier support guy. He was nearly impossible. He talked way too quickly and talked as if I was the Queen of Stupid. We tried a few things and it was clearly getting worse. After an hour he said he needed time to research and would call me back in 45 minutes.
We hung up and I then started checking the plugs and cards and tightening everything down. That was the final blow. No monitor so I couldn't even see what the problem was.
So I packed it up and took it to the post office and sent it back to my brother. It's a bit frivolous but I'm ok with that. He's willing and shipping is expensive but worth it to me. (I thought about getting it fixed here but I didn't want to undermine my baby brother and I am confident he can fix it and may well learn stuff in the process - that's worth the extra time and money to me.)
I sent an email to this morning's support guy. But he called anyway. I was so glad I had already decided.
Now, keep in mind that I am not a Microsoft basher. Microsoft has been and continues to be very good to and for me and I am grateful. But, having said that, there are knives in the drawer than need sharpening...
"I won't be doing any more troubleshooting today. I'm sending the system back to the builder."
"I will be able to have your operating system working within 45 minutes this morning, Susan."
"Thank you, but I decided to send it back to the person who built it and have him fix it. It's now in the box ready to go to the shipper."
"All I need is 30 minutes to try a couple of things that I know will fix it. Can we try those things, Susan?"
"No, it is in the the box, taped and ready to go to the shipper. "
"So your answer is no, Susan?"
"My answer is turn up your volume you fuckwad." Ok so I didn't actually say that out loud.
"I will have the system builder use this service request if your services are still needed."
"May I have his [note the gender bias here] phone number so I can call him tomorrow morning and try the things I know will work?"
"No. If he needs your services, he will contact you."
"All right then, Susan, are there other ways I can help you today?"
Lucky for him, I found the words "no, thank you" and hung up.
I took it to the post office and stopped and got a sausage biscuit on the way home. Now I need to clean up cables and stuff and organize this desk. It will be at least a couple of weeks, I think before it gets back here.
I'm sorry that it didn't work out correctly the first time but I know it will eventually and I can wait.
